Indianapolis Healthy Babies Fetal Infant Mortality Review- part of the Marion County Public Health Department – developed a list of 7 top recommendations for improving maternal mental health at the individual, systems, and statewide level, as well a list of local and national resources for families and providers with the hopes of improving perinatal mental health outcomes.

This guide is a result of a Healthy Pregnancies workgroup, a sub-committee of a larger FIMR Community Action Team (CAT) in Knox Co, TN. The group met over the course of a year to identify and strategize ways to address the importance of preconception care and early prenatal care. 

The Indiana Department of Health is partnering with The Milk Bank and Ardo Medical, Inc. to provide Indiana hospitals, providers, and healthcare staff with education about lactation after loss, the importance of having this conversation with families prior to discharge, and bereavement kits. This initiative magnifies why maternal and/or family interviews are such a valuable piece to the FIMR program. Some of our best recommendations come directly from families themselves.
